Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory
1. Functions and tasks
University training .Conducting experimental guidance on general hydraulics and construction hydraulics for construction engineers specializing in Hydraulic Works (including 2 majors: Hydraulic-Hydropower Construction Engineer, Port and Waterway Construction Engineer) and construction engineers specializing in: High-quality Engineer, Civil and Industrial Construction, Bridges, Roads, Underground Works, Marine Works, Construction Materials, Environmental Engineering.
Postgraduate training . Conducting experimental research combined with theory to serve master and doctoral training.
Scientific research serving production . Scientific experimental research, research to verify scientific production projects, pre-feasibility design projects, feasibility projects, exploitation – operation – repair projects of hydraulic works (Irrigation works, Hydroelectricity, Dykes, Dams, Reservoirs, Irrigation systems – Pumping stations, Ports – Waterways, Embankments, River regulation works, Bank protection works – Sea encroachment, etc.)
Research on the application of scientific and technological advances in the field of hydraulic works into production.
2. About training
Regarding undergraduate training: We have been involved in training Civil Engineering students specializing in hydraulic engineering and other construction-related fields at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering from 1996 to the present. In terms of scale, the number of students participating in practical experiments (guided by the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory) was 400-450 in the 1990-1992 academic years, increasing to 1300-1400 in 1998-1999. Between 2010 and 2020, the number of students conducting experiments reached 3500-4500, and currently, this number is expected to reach approximately 1500-1800 students conducting experiments in general hydraulics and engineering hydraulics each year (including the increased number of experiments for specialized hydraulic engineering courses).
Postgraduate training: successfully collaborated with and supported 7 doctoral candidates.
Scientific research – serving production: Under the leadership of scientific staff in the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory successfully carried out many scientific and production projects, including those with very important scientific and practical significance such as:

3. Scientific research – serving production
Under the leadership of the scientific staff in the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory has successfully carried out many scientific and production projects of great scientific and practical significance, such as:
- Research on the hydraulic regime and technological solutions for “flood sealing” to protect the dike system in Northern Vietnam against the destructive war waged by the US during the period 1965-1968 (an urgent project specially assigned by the Central Flood Control Committee and the Ministry of Water Resources).
- The project “Research on the overall hydraulic regime of the Hoa Binh Irrigation and Hydropower project” for the feasibility design assessment carried out by the Hydropoek Institute of the former Soviet Union in 1979-1980 (a project assigned by the Ministry of Rivers and Rivers).
- Other topics include: Research on the hydraulic regime of the Rõng Nam Hà sluice gate (1972),
- Research on the downstream hydraulic regime of the Núi Cốc project (Thái Nguyên), the Kẻ Gỗ project (Hà Tĩnh), the Thác Bà project (Yên Bái), the Hòa Bình hydroelectric project, the Nghi Quang project (Nghệ Tĩnh),
- Research on river regulation in sections of the Đuống River, the Hồng River near Hanoi, the Luộc River in Hải Hưng area, etc…
- First time using a gas model in the study of river regulation of the Hồng River section from Mễ Sở to Yên Lệnh
