VETERANS ASSOCIATION OF HANOI UNIVERSITY OF CONSTRUCTION WITH A PICNIC JOURNEY TO THE ANCIENT BATTLEFIELD OF BIEN – LONG AN

From December 10th to 14th, 2025, the Veterans Association of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering organized an excursion to the former battlefield of Da Bien – Long An (now part of Tay Ninh province). This trip was one of the activities commemorating the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army, the 36th anniversary of the National Defense Day, and the 26th anniversary of the founding of the university’s Veterans Association. This political activity aimed to pay tribute to the martyrs, especially the student soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national independence.
Following the itinerary, at Da Bien Hamlet, Thanh Hoa, Long An (now part of Tay Ninh province), the delegation offered incense at the “Bac Bo Shrine” and the Memorial Area for Martyrs of Regiment 207 – Military Region 8. This is the place that commemorates the heroic battle of October 1973, where many student soldiers fell; visited the “Memorial Monument for Martyrs of Regiment 207” – a structure built by generations of cadres and students of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; the delegation visited the Moc Hoa – Kien Tuong & Tan Thanh – Thanh Hoa Martyrs’ Cemetery with a mass grave of 291 martyrs and thousands of graves of unknown martyrs.
In Dong Thap, the delegation offered incense at the special national historical site – the tomb of Deputy Scholar Nguyen Sinh Sac (father of President Ho Chi Minh).
The final destination of the journey is Ha Tien province (Kien Giang province), where the group will visit the Mac Family Temple (dedicated to Mac Cuu and his family, who contributed to the expansion of the southern lands) and explore the Mui Nai beach area.
Although many members of the Veterans Association are elderly and frail, their unwavering camaraderie made the trip a great success. It was a practical learning experience that helped members further love their country, be proud of the glorious traditions of the army, demonstrate the principle of “drinking water, remembering the source,” strengthen the bonds of camaraderie between comrades and civilians, and educate the younger generation about revolutionary spirit.
