On October 26, 2024, the Faculty of Civil Engineering organized a site visit for K69 students from the Civil Engineering and Construction 2 classes to two exemplary projects: Nghia Hung lock and Lach Huyen port in Hai Phong.
The Nghia Hung lock is an important hydraulic structure in Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province, Vietnam. It plays a role in regulating, controlling, and managing water resources, while also serving inland waterway transportation. Lach Huyen Port is one of the most important deep-water ports in Hai Phong, and also the main gateway to the sea for the northern region of Vietnam. Located in Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city, Lach Huyen Port is one of the largest deep-water ports in Vietnam, capable of receiving large container ships (up to 200,000 DWT), enhancing Vietnam’s maritime connectivity with international markets.
The orientation trip for K69 Hydraulic Engineering students is very important, especially in building a foundation of practical knowledge and developing professional skills. The purpose of the trip is:
- Understanding the real-world working environment: Students majoring in Hydraulic Engineering need to grasp the realities of hydraulic engineering projects, port systems, waterways, dams, canals, reservoirs, and related infrastructure. Field trips give them a direct view of the challenges and requirements in the industry, allowing them to connect this knowledge with the theory they have learned.
- Linking theory with practice: Field trips help students connect theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom with real-world situations, construction processes, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic structures.
- Access to new technologies and construction methods: Visiting actual construction sites also helps students access the latest technologies in the field of hydraulic engineering, including engineering methods, machinery, and management processes.
- Motivating students to learn: Field trips can inspire and motivate students during their studies. Seeing large-scale projects firsthand and understanding the importance of their field will give them more goals to strive for in their studies and future careers.
- Building relationships and networking: Orientation tours often include faculty, industry experts, or people working on construction projects. This is a great opportunity for students to expand their network, learn from experienced professionals, and seek internship or job opportunities in the future.
Overall, the orientation tour is an integral part of the training program for the Hydraulic Engineering major, helping students gain an overview and a deeper understanding of their profession.
