As Vietnam undergoes a historic transformation in its infrastructure, a fundamental question arises: How will we build a sustainable future?
From August 24-29 in Hanoi, with the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering as the coordinating and leading institution, and in collaboration with other organizations, Vietnam will officially host the 79th RILEM Week & ICONS 2025 International Conference. This event is a strategic forum where RILEM’s international academic prestige intersects with the capabilities and aspirations of a rapidly developing nation.
The focus of the workshop will revolve around three main pillars, addressing the industry’s most pressing challenges. Dialogues will delve into the sustainable performance of low-CO2 emission materials and self-healing concrete; explore the power of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in structural optimization; and promote the circular economy and green building standards.
The event was attended by renowned experts, including scientists who have won the prestigious Robert L’Hermite Medal and researchers from academic institutions around the world. Notable attendees included Professor Karen Scrivener – the mastermind behind LC3 cement technology, and Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Thanh – Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Environment and Building Materials – who spearheaded the development of Vietnam’s National Building Materials Development Strategy.
This is not just a single workshop, but a comprehensive week-long academic ecosystem. The program includes in-depth courses, sessions of the RILEM Standing Committee which shapes global scientific activity, the ICONS International Workshop, and a technical tour of a real-world construction site.
This is not just an event to attend. It’s a forum to contribute, learn, and build together.
