The Hydraulic Engineering Department of the University of Civil Engineering was officially established in 1966. After more than half a century of construction and development, the Hydraulic Engineering Department has become a cradle for training, scientific research, technology transfer, and production in the fields of hydraulic engineering, marine engineering, and oil and gas. The lecturers and alumni of the Hydraulic Engineering and Marine Engineering departments at the University of Civil Engineering have made significant contributions to the important achievements in the construction and development of the country.

The high-quality Hydraulic Engineering program, part of the Vietnam-France PFIEV High-Quality Engineering Training Program, was established nearly 20 years ago. Together with its French partners, the Central School of Paris (Ecole Centrale de Paris) and the Grenoble National Polytechnic Institute (INP Grenoble), the high-quality Hydraulic Engineering program has trained many highly skilled engineers, masters, and doctoral graduates who are dynamic, creative, and hold important positions in various organizations and institutions. Notably, a significant number of alumni from the high-quality Hydraulic Engineering program, trained at partner universities, are achieving success in France.
